Once the anesthetic (freezing) starts to wear off, you may feel some pain. Take acetaminophen (Tylenol) and ibuprofen (Advil), as long as you haven’t been told you can’t take either drug. You can take both of these drugs at the same time.
If the wound bleeds after the procedure, hold firm pressure on it continuously for 5 minutes. Do not remove or change the bandage. You may need to do this twice. If it is still bleeding after this, call Dr. Overduin's office at 519-880-4485.
You may get the bandage/steristrips lightly wet after 24 hours. The wound should not be submerged or soaked in water.
Keep the wound covered with a bandage/steristrips for 2 days/48 hours. After 2 days, you can gently wash the wound with soap and water alone. Do not use alcohol or peroxide.
If you have non-absorbable stitches, cover the wound with a bandage. You can change the bandage every day if needed.
If you have absorbable stitches, you can cover the wound with a bandage, or you can leave it uncovered and apply Polysporin or Vaseline instead.
If you notice thick discharge coming from your wound, or if the wound is red and painful, you may be getting an infection. Seek medical attention.
If you have non-absorbable stitches, they will be removed at your next appointment at Dr. Overduin's clinic.
You will be given an appointment to talk to Dr. Overduin over the phone 1 month after your procedure. During this appointment, Dr. Overduin will review the results of the biopsy. Dr. Overduin discusses all results - whether benign or cancerous - with patients. If you do not think that you have a phone appointment or if you have not been given your pathology result 1 month after the procedure, call the office.
